GEORGIA'S QB STARTS TO HEAT UP DESPITE TRANSFER

Well Dawgnation It’s a done deal. Greyson Lambert will be transferring to Georgia. Now the Bulldogs’ quarterback competition gets really interesting. Lambert will graduate from the University of Virginia on July 11th and move to Athens on July 13th. He will report with the rest of the Bulldogs for preseason camp on Aug. 1.

So what does it mean? I think it means a couple of things. First off, I don’t think it radically changes the dynamic for Georgia at the position. I still believe Brice Ramsey will end up starting this season with the Bulldogs and would still expect Faton Bauta to be the primary backup.

Here’s my take on Lambert. He’s a great student-athlete and a pretty good quarterback. Think about it: This guy will graduate from the University of Virginia in 2 1/2 years. He did that while playing football and serving as a starting quarterback for most of the season. So to be clear: Lambert is an excellent student and he’s coming to Georgia for academic reasons, first and foremost. Also, it’s my understanding that Lambert’s girlfriend attends UGA. So there’s that.

I really do think Lambert possesses the tools or has the time to overtake Georgia’s other quarterbacks before the Sept. 5 season opener. Lambert passed for 1,972 yards, and threw (11) interceptions along with (10) touchdowns. I do think Lambert does give Georgia instant quality depth. And given time to learn the system and get comfortable in the offense, he could ultimately prove to be the best choice to serve as the bridge to Jacob Eason.
